These terms and conditions are set out in three sections for ease of use, all intended to be read and interpreted together.

Website Use (General)

The terms and conditions outlined here apply to all users of the Tying the Knot website (http://www.tyingtheknot.co.nz) and to all purchases of goods or services that are made from Tying the Knot 2009 Ltd (when you see the words "we", "us" or "our" on this website it is also intended to mean Tying the Knot 2009 Limited).

All terms and conditions are current, although subject to variation from time to time and we reserve the right to vary our terms and conditions for any reason and without notice to users in order to meet business demands and/or comply with any relevant laws. Viewing and using our website on one or more occasions means that you have read, understood and accepted all of our terms and conditions. If you are unclear or have any concerns about the information contained herein, or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at the address below. If you do not agree to any of our terms and conditions or with the terms of our Privacy Policy you should immediately cease your use of our website.

Governing Law

We are a New Zealand based Company and supply goods and services within New Zealand, therefore by your use of this website you submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand Courts and our dealings with you are governed by New Zealand Law. If you do not agree to submit to the laws of New Zealand then you should immediately cease your use of our site.


The contents of our website are copyright and all copyright works are the property of either Tying The Knot 2009 Limited or our suppliers. The information contained within this site is provided for the sole purpose of setting up a wedding gift registry and for purchasing goods and services from us. Reproduction of any images and/or text contained within this site is prohibited. You may not use our website or any part of it for anything other than the following purposes:

1. to set up a gift registry for your own wedding; and/or

2. to view and/or order goods or services from us.

Any other use is strictly prohibited by us.


Our website makes general information available to you as well as specific material relating to individual products or services for the purpose of creating a wedding gift registry and for you and your wedding guests to purchase products and services through us. Any information about specific products and/or services on this website is provided as it is received from our suppliers and without modification by us. We are not responsible for the accuracy of product or service information and make no warranty that any of the goods or services advertised will be fit for any particular purpose. We are also not responsible for any adverse consequences arising out from information from our website being used for purposes other than those outlined above.


We will take reasonable care to ensure the information presented in our website is accurate and the opinions given (if any) are fair and reasonable. We cannot and will not be held responsible for errors or misstatements or be liable whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise for any loss or damage caused (whether direct, indirect, consequential, special, or loss of profits). If you feel any of the information contained on our website is misleading or inaccurate, please bring it to our attention immediately.


From time to time there may be advertising displayed on our site. We will take all reasonable care to ensure the advertising is relevant or useful to our users however we will not be responsible for the content of any of the advertisements and give no warranty about the truth or accuracy of any representations made in those advertisements. It is your responsibility to confirm the accuracy of any representations or special offers made with the supplier concerned when you respond to or rely on their advertisement.

Changes to Terms and Conditions

We reserve the right to change these terms and conditions at any time by notifying users through our website.

Terms and Conditions (The Supply of Goods and Services)


We supply goods and services in New Zealand so, all goods and services on our website are advertised in New Zealand dollars (NZ$) and include New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 15%. We reserve the right to change advertised prices at any time before your order has been processed and payment accepted.

Product Description and Images

We endeavour to provide imagery and descriptions that give the closest possible representation of the products advertised. We cannot guarantee the colour accuracy displayed on individual computer monitors and again, the imagery and descriptions of goods are those images which have been given to us by our suppliers. We cannot and do not guarantee or give any warranty that goods will be identical in finish or colour to those shown on our website. Minor differences in colour and finish of goods should be expected, particularly if they are handmade.

Pricing of Honeymoons and Travel Packages

Package pricing may be subject to currency fluctuations and airfare tax changes until paid in full. A deposit will be required to secure the booking with the balance due one month prior to travel. The honeymoon specialist will advise details at time of booking. 

Cancellation Policy for Honeymoons and Travel Packages

Each Tour Operator, Airline and Cruise Line have their own cancellation policy and fees. Please check these conditions with your Honeymoon Specialist. We do recommend that you take out Cancellation Insurance for $60.00 per adult to cover cancellation and loss of deposits. Your Honeymoon Specialist can issue this policy and then upgrade to a full policy closer to travel - with a $60.00 discount.

Personal Notes

We provide you the opportunity to write a personal note to your guests that can accompany each product or service. We reserve the right to remove or edit any messages that we consider to be defamatory, obscene, threatening, harassing, invasive of privacy rights or otherwise objectionable.


Delivery is only available to addresses within New Zealand. Some products may incur a delivery charge, which will be outlined at the checkout stage of purchase. Gifts purchased from our website will be delivered on the date and to the address specified by the registry holder, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It is the registry holder's obligation to ensure that the correct delivery address is given. We will notify you if there is any unforeseen courier delay or need to make subsequent deliveries. We will not be held responsible for any loss or damage arising from a late or missing delivery that is beyond our control.


If necessary in the circumstances of your order, we will arrange for transit insurance and at our discretion the cost of that insurance may be added to your delivery fee. You will be advised of any additional insurance cost at the checkout stage of purchase.

Returns and Replacements (Goods only)

We are confident that you will be completely satisfied with your gifts. However, in the event where goods arrive and are found to be faulty, they may be returned to us using the following procedure and within the later of the following timeframes:

1. not less than five (5) days before the end of any manufacturers warranty period for the goods; or

2. within thirty (30) days of delivery by us.

Procedure for Return of Faulty Goods

1. Email us at enquiries@tyingtheknot.co.nz or call customer services on 0508 734 478 to notify us of the problem and obtain a return authorisation number.

2. Ensure goods are in an unused, original condition and still in original packaging.

3. Repackage adequately for transport and have available for a courier (organised by us) to collect.

We will organise a replacement product and re-delivery, subject to individual manufacturers warranties. If the goods are found not to be faulty, then full delivery charges will be incurred and will be payable by you before the goods are returned to you.

We take all care to ensure goods are packaged securely for transit, however, in the event that goods are received and found to be damaged from transit, they may be returned to us using the following procedure and within 24 hours of receipt.

Procedure for Return of Goods Damaged in Transit

1. Email us at enquiries@tyingtheknot.co.nz or call customer services on 0508 734 478 to notify us and obtain a return authorisation number.

2. Repackage adequately for transport and have available for a courier (organised by us) to collect.

We will organise a replacement product and re-delivery.

Consumer Guarantees Act 1993

Apart from our Tying the Knot Gift Certificates, we do not manufacture any of the goods advertised on our website. Apart from the wedding registry and gift purchase services itself we do not supply any of the services offered as gifts on our website. For these reasons, should you be dissatisfied with any of the products or services purchased from our site, we will comply with any requirement imposed on us by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 as the supplier of those goods or services, but no more than that. We will however do our best to assist you with manufacturers warranty issues (if you ask us to or if the manufacturers require it) by liaising with the manufacturer or supplier. You should not purchase any of the goods or services for business use. If you do purchase any of the goods or services for business use, the provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 will not apply to our dealings with you. As set out above, the use of our website by you for business use without our prior knowledge and consent is expressly prohibited.

Gift Certificates

We offer two types of gift certificates.

1. Tying the Knot Gift Certificates

Our Gift Certificates are issued on all of the following conditions:

1.1 that they are non-refundable;

1.2 that they are not able to be exchanged for cash, this also applies to all products purchased;

1.3 that they are not valid for purchasing further gift certificates (including Travel Gift Cards); and

1.4 we will not give change for the balance of the value of a Gift Certificate.

Tying the Knot Gift Certificates are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. It is your responsibility to redeem them prior to the expiry date. You may use our Gift Certificates to purchase any goods or services advertised on our website at the time you redeem the Gift Certificate. If the value of your Tying the Knot Gift Certificate is less than the purchase price of any good or service advertised on our website, you may pay for the good or service using your Tying the Knot Gift Certificate and by paying the balance of the purchase price by credit card or Internet banking as per your arrangement with your Tying the Knot representative.

2. Our Supplier's Gift Certificates

If you select Gift Certificates for products or services from one of our suppliers, then these Gift Certificates are issued on the terms and conditions of that particular supplier. We will endeavour to make those terms and conditions available to you to view when you make your purchase. All matters relating to redeeming these Gift Certificates are to be dealt with directly with the suppliers of those goods or services and we make no warranty about the suitability, quality or availability of any of the goods or services offered.

Privacy Policy

Collecting Information

Your personal right to privacy is paramount and we want to ensure that your experience at Tying the Knot is safe and enjoyable. We do request certain personal information from you for the following:

1. Setting up a wedding gift registry.

2. Purchasing products and/or services.

3. Subscribing to our email newsletter.

Your decision to provide us with personal information such as: name, address, email address, phone number, wedding date etc enables us to offer you a streamlined registry service, process transactions efficiently and provide a higher level of customer service. From time to time, we may also use your personal information to contact you to participate in a customer satisfaction survey, so that we may be able to continuously improve and develop our product and service range.

Your personal and order information that is retained by us is held on a secure password protected database, with access only available to selected authorised people. We are committed to respecting and protecting your privacy and will not sell or share your information with outside companies or third parties. The only time we will share your information with outside companies or third parties is with courier companies for the purposes of delivery or suppliers for the purposes of warranty issues.

Updating Your Personal Information

For registry holders, your personal information can be changed or updated at any time by clicking 'Manage your Registry' and following the steps. You are entitled at any time to view and amend your personal information to ensure it is accurate. If you are using this site to set up a gift registry for your wedding, you will be issued with a password when you register. It is your responsibility to keep your password secure and we will not be responsible for any loss or any claim against us if your password is misused.


Like many websites, our website uses "cookie" technology. When you first connect to our website, the cookie identifies your browser with a unique, random number. Cookies help us to better understand the effectiveness of our website and to make improvements by providing us with data like the most visited pages on our website. Once you log out from our website or close the browser, Cookies will be disabled.

Online Security

 Our server uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) channel encryption to protect your credit card information. All credit card payments are handled in real-time by Direct Payment Solutions. We do not store any credit card information. This information is only ever used for the purpose of making a transaction.

To ensure that your credit card or other personal details are kept secure while on the Internet, we use a 128-bit digital certificate to encrypt the data going to and from the web site. Secure web pages are identified by "https" in the URL address.

Once a purchase is made online, an email notification will be sent to confirm this purchase. It is the purchaser's responsibility to ensure that they contact us if they do not receive this notification for a purchase, so that we can follow this up.
